The Highlands at Wyomissing reimagined its Personal Care building to introduce a state-of-the-art Memory Care program and elevate personal care to match the high-quality finishes and amenities of Independent Living. The upper level now features two distinct memory care households, each with dedicated outdoor space, enhanced natural light from single-loaded corridors, and strategically placed roof monitors with Solera glass to brighten central common areas. A new connecting corridor between resident wings improves staff efficiency and encloses the North Courtyard, while the lower level was reconfigured to strengthen connections between Personal Care apartments and the Clubhouse, including expanded fitness facilities and new community spaces.
Two distinctive courtyards on the lower level encourage interaction between Independent Living and Personal Care residents. The first, a fitness garden adjacent to the fitness center and pool, offers shaded areas for outdoor classes and a tranquil zen garden for quiet reflection. The second transforms a once-inaccessible lawn into a multi-use destination complete with two covered porches featuring translucent roofs that let in daylight while keeping residents comfortable, rain or shine. An outdoor kitchen—equipped with a gas grill, sinks, refrigeration, and a speed-well—creates the perfect backdrop for afternoon cocktails and seasonal dining, just steps from the Personal Care kitchen. At the garden’s heart, a wide-format, double-sided gas fireplace serves as a dramatic focal point and cozy gathering spot, making this space an inviting hub for socializing year-round.
